The fellows submitted revised papers presented at the 3rd LSA Conference, held last June at the University of Lagos, for publication consideration. The LSA Fellowship will pay for five nights of hotel accommodation (June 25-29), feeding, and registration fee for the 4th LSA Conference. The Fellows will wear a special name badge showing their status as LSA Fellow throughout the Conference and formally receive the LSA fellowship award certificate at the closing ceremony on June 28. The Fellows will have a closed session with editors of the three journals (Saheed Aderinto, Journal of West African History; Carli Coetzee, Journal of African Cultural Studies; and Ebenezer Obadare, Journal of Modern African Studies). The session is aimed at demystifying publishing models and providing information about international journals and their protocols with the Fellows. In addition, the LSA Fellows will each, over the days of the conference, receive feedback from the journal editors on pre-submitted papers with the aim of finalizing these papers for eventual submission to academic journals. Apart from the closed sessions with the LSA Fellows, the editors will also conduct an open session on academic journal publishing. 1) Tai Martins Adenipekun Title of Paper: Sustainability of Housing: The Conceptual Framework Institutional Affiliation: Lagos State Polytechnic 2) Ada Agbasimalo Title of Paper: The Igbo in Lagos Institutional Affiliation: Forest Dame Peace Initiative 3) Lola Akande Title of Paper: Engendering the Genre: The Feminization Of the Lagos Novel Institutional Affiliation: University of Lagos 4) Adedehinbo Ekundayo Badejo Title of Paper: Emerging Issues in the Development of Lagos as a Megacity (Co-authored with Christopher Odogwu Chidi) Institutional Affiliation: University of Lagos 5) Hayatu Bajeh Title of Paper: Naija Music and the Ghetto Fabulous Aesthetic Institutional Affiliation: Kwara State University 6) Faruq Idowu Boge Title of Paper: Chief R. The central plank on which this book rests is profound: from the 1920s, new institutions of power in Nigerian cities of Lagos, Ibadan, and Kano and in Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, created new regimes that sorted, indexed, and ordered individuals and groups in accordance with the perceived threat they posed to prejudiced construction of order and normative behavior or in response to their significance for upholding the ideals of capitalism, or both. From the discourse of race and gender to class, politics, and segregation, Fourchard=E2=80=99s book develops fresh theoretical frameworks and paradigm= for understanding the lived experience of urbanites across elastic physical and cultural geographies, while not overlooking specific structures unique to individual locations. Methodologically, the book re-affirms the significance of thinking across disciplinary boundaries. The creation of age-specific social services and policing mechanisms in Nigerian and South African cities extends Fourchard's narratives by connecting the questions of violence to gradation in childhood and the futuristic notions of progress. This book comes out at a time when police violence against a demography of Nigerian youth is creating new anxiety and when xenophobia in South Africa compels us to rethink pan-Africanism in a new way. =E2=80=9CCl= assify, Exclude, Police=E2=80=9D is the book of the moment. The English version of the book will be out in a couple of weeks. The LSA is grateful to the following friends and colleagues who have agreed to participate in this panel. Saheed Aderinto (Western Carolina University) Bukola Akintola-Adesina (University of Ibadan) Rufus Akinyele (University of Lagos) Laurent Fourchard (Sciences Po)=E2=80=94Book author Ayodeji Olukoju (University of Lagos) Job Zwane (University of the Witwatersrand) 3) Highlights of the 4th LSA Conference. Lagos, June 27-29, 2019. Round-table: "Lagos through the Lens: Beyond Representation." --- Europeans, not Africans, were the first to view Lagos though the camera lens from the 19th century. As one would expect, their cameras captured their racialized fascination and supplied the language that shaped colonial hegemony. Hence, the camera, like the gun, was an instrument of colonial power control. The postcolonial transformation of African politics, society, and technology has changed the photographic representation of Lagos. Today, young, vibrant, and talented Nigerians are setting the standard of visual imaging of Lagos in ways that align with contemporary questions of agency, subjectivity, creativity, and survival. This round-table seeks to problematize photographic representations of Lagos by engaging with nuisances embedded in questions of class, agency, and self-fashioning. What factors should shape how Lagos is captured by photographers? Who should interpret photographic representations? How should photographers respond to criticism about artistic preferences that overlook elements of location, urban public space, gender, and informality? What kind of relationship should exist between professional photographers and academics who use visual evidence for research? The LSA is grateful to distinguished photographer Andrew Esiebo for helping to put this round-table together. *Panelists* Imole =E2=80=9CTobbie=E2=80=9D Balogun is a Lagos-based photographer.
