As you know, because of the extraordinary circumstances we face this year due to the global pandemic, we will not have the pleasure of meeting in Ottawa. We thank the local organizers for all of their hard work preparing for the in-person event and assisting with its cancellation. We know you are eager to proceed with DH2020. This email contains key information about the book of abstracts and the associated virtual conference that will occur this July. First, it is important to note that your acceptance at DH2020 will result in a published book of abstracts that will reflect the conference as it would have happened in Ottawa. This publication, though, does not preclude you from any future publication opportunities. Second, ADHO is pleased to announce that this summer we will hold a virtual version of the DH2020 conference. Its goal is to offer authors whose works were accepted for DH2020 the opportunity to share their papers, posters, and presentations publicly via (Humanities Commons)[2], an open-access platform for networked humanities scholarship, as well as to provide additional forms of interactivity and participation. Details on the virtual conference are provided below. *Book of Abstracts * We request that you look over your submission in ConfTool () by 15 June 2020. You are welcome to update your abstract to take into account the reviewer feedback you received, but this is not required. We will take the information from ConfTool and use it to create the convalidated book of abstracts. You should update your submission in Contool> Your Submissions> Final Upload no later than June 15. Please check the following: [1]: https://dh2020.adho.org/ [2]: https://hcommons.org/ * the names, emails, and institutions of all contributors are correct. * the abstract field in conftool should be updated to include all prose that you want to appear in the book of abstracts, including any citations. We will not draw content from any files attached to your submission with the exception of images or figures. All content you wish printed in the book of abstracts must be entered into the abstract entry field in Conftool. Use the rich text editor for any formatting you wish to include. Please note we are not forcing a unified citation practice and ask only that your citations be traceable, following your preferred style guide. Citations will not count against your word count for the published abstracts. * any abstracts that contain images or figures should be submitted in the final upload attachment section. Up to two individual images or figures will be accepted as jpg or tif formats; more than two images or figures can be submitted within a .zip or .tar file. Images that you would like to include should be uploaded in Conftool, with the lead author's last name, the submission number, and a figure number (e.g. crompton_100_figure1.jpg). Please place the figure number with a caption in the plain text abstract in the Full Abstract field between the paragraphs in where you would like the image to appear (e.g. Figure 1: A Visualization of Keywords and Topics in the DH2020 Abstract Corpus) Questions regarding the book of abstracts can be directed to with Abstracts in the subject line after reviewing our (Frequently Asked Questions page)[3]. *ADHO’s Virtual 2020 Conference* The majority of the virtual 2020 conference will be asynchronous in order to allow as many members of our global scholarly community to take part as possible; some concurrent conference events will take place during the week of July 22-24, when the in-person conference was to have occurred. Details about the virtual conference - participation, registration, and dates - will be announced via the ADHO website, ConfTool, and social media on June 15. In the meanwhile, here are some highlights of what you can look forward to: [3]: https://dh2020.adho.org/guidelines/book-of-abstracts/ * A DH2020 conference group in (Humanities Commons,)[2] which provides opportunities for interaction and collaboration among participants * Presentations (short/long presentations, posters, panels) uploaded to the (Humanities Commons CORE )[4]repository, where all presentations will be given a permanent DOI and linked to the Book of Abstracts, and viewers can comment and provide feedback [4]: https://hcommons.org/core/ * The (Fortier Prize)[5] award [5]: https://adho.org/awards/paul-fortier-prize * Community awards * Forum discussions In addition, we will work with COs, AOs, SIGs, and affinity group members to support a variety of other conference activities according to both demand and feasibility: * Workshop webinars * Meet-ups * Twitter sessions * Synchronous panels/sessions Participation in the forthcoming virtual conference is entirely optional; your abstract will be published regardless of your participation in the virtual conference. Those interested in the virtual conference will be invited to participate in June. You will be invited to present the submission that was already accepted for the conference. You will also be asked to complete entirely separate tasks associated with registration and presentation. Questions regarding the virtual conference and participation in it can be directed to Diane Jakacki, chair of the ADHO Conference Coordinating Committee, at with Virtual Conference in the subject line.
