We hope you're all well during these strange and hectic times and wanted to=
 write with a reminder of a couple of events:


Digital Cultures Work in Progress - deadline for submissions Friday 5th Jun=
e

1pm-3pm, Friday 19 June


On Friday the 19th of June, from 1pm-3pm, the Centre for Digital Cultures w=
ill be hosting an online discussion of PGR and staff work in progress using=
 Zoom. If you'd like to have some of your work read by friendly colleagues =
who work in digital studies, please send a document of up to 5,000 words to=
 Matt Hayler (m.s.hayler@bham.ac.uk) by the 5th of June (Matt doesn't encou=
rage weekend working, but if something makes it to his inbox before about 1=
0am on Monday the 8th it will be included!). This can be some PhD work, a c=
onference paper, an article or book chapter, or something you've been worki=
ng on that you don't quite know what to do with yet.


On Monday the 8th of June, all pieces will be sent to colleagues with instr=
uctions on which two to read before the 19th (if you would like to read mor=
e than two pieces then please do). On the 19th, everyone who submitted work=
 will hear back from those who read it and there'll be an opportunity for d=
iscussion. We can also talk about research in general, and a discussion of =
adapting to research in quarantine might also be of use to a number of us.


If you'd like to take part in the session, but not submit work to be read, =
that's absolutely fine - please just register your interest with Matt at th=
e email address above and you'll be sent work to read and respond to. If yo=
u have any queries at all please let us know.

Contemporary Theory Reading Group Presents: K-Punk Quarantined

Weekly Seminars: Tuesdays at 3pm, 26 May - 23 June

Guest Lecture: 5pm, Monday 8 June - SOLD OUT


A series of seminars hosted at the University of Birmingham via Zoom on the=
 legacy of Mark Fisher=92s work. Proceedings will begin at 3pm on Tuesday t=
he 26th of May, and run weekly until Tuesday the 23rd of June. These sessio=
ns are designed to be informal exercises to introduce Fisher=92s wide varie=
ty of writing on various topics, including: Popular and Counter-Culture, id=
eas relating to Ecocriticism, Music Criticism and Hauntology, Science-Ficti=
on, and the Weird and Eerie. The sessions will also be complimented by a gu=
est lecture by Matt Colquhoun, author of the first book-length piece of sec=
ondary fiction on Fisher=92s work, Egress: On Mourning, Melancholy and Mark=
 Fisher (2020) (please note that this session has now sold out, but there a=
re still spaces in the seminars).
