The African Studies Association (ASA)=2C founded in 1957 in the United Sta=
tes and the largest membership-organization of scholars about Africa globa=
lly=2C supports the statement by the Ghana Studies Association (GSA) comme=
nting on the Ghanaian government=E2=80=99s proposed Public University Bill=
=2E The GSA is an associate organization of the ASA.

The GSA is a membership-organization of scholars of Ghana from all around=
 the world=2C and whose current leadership and many of its members are bas=
ed in public universities in Ghana. The President of the GSA=2C Nana Akua=
 Anyidoho is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Statistical=2C S=
ocial and Economic Research (ISSER) of the University of Ghana=2C while th=
e Treasurer=2C Kwabena Opoku-Agyemang=2C is a lecturer at the English Depa=
rtment of the University of Ghana.  The GSA=2C in its own words=2C produce=
s research that engages with Ghana and its people in productive ways and a=
s such are=2C therefore=2C an association that has scholarly and existenti=
al interests in the proposed Public University Bill.

In summary=2C the GSA criticizes the Bill for being unconstitutional=2C un=
necessary and harmful to the future of public universities in Ghana. The G=
SA argues that the Bill will =E2=80=9Ccumulatively will give the Governmen=
t of Ghana unwarranted control of the educational sector.=E2=80=9D It join=
s the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (https://gaas-gh.org/)  in callin=
g for the complete rejection (https://citinewsroom.com/2020/05/ghana-acade=
my-of-arts-and-sciences-rejects-public-universities-bill/)  of the Bill.
